It’s been awhile since I’ve done one of these, which is all the more reason to be excited it. Today we’re going to be talking about hacks. I love diving into this realm. Hacks and mods are so intensely interesting for me. It doesn’t matter if the application is simple like tweaking a game’s difficulty balance, or creating a whole new space. It’s all very fascinating to me. Why do people go through the paces? I can understand wanting to translate a game that is only in one language. Translating a Japanese RPG, for example, has been popular since the 2000s. It’s like paying it forward. Doing a full reconstruction is a lot of work, but it’s rewarding knowing other like-minded fans can finally play a game in English, or whatever language it is translated to.
So I get that idea of that line of thinking, but why make a ROM hack? Why dedicate so much time to a single game and not just make your own? Let’s look at The Legend of Zelda for example, which is today’s subject. It, like many games, has a hugely dedicated fan base. Making a game by yourself is more challenging than a hack so perhaps it’s also a learning experience. Why not learn the ropes while creating something fun from one of your favorite games? The reason is probably different for everyone, but I’m sure there’s at least some truth to that. Well, no matter the reason, these twenty-five The Legend of Zelda: hacks are all great in their own way.

25 Los Hyrule
WillanZilv created this hack and it can be found on GameBanana. It’s a simple mod that replaces Link with a model for CJ from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas into the Wii U version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Another hack lets you turn bears into CJ’s pal, Big Smoke. This is like a combination of the Sora and Sonic mod from earlier, but way more in depth. Not only can you blast away fools in the realm of Hyrule as one sick gangster, but also you can do so atop a large version of Big Smoke. If you ask me WillanZilv must have been smoking something when he came up with this idea. Nudge, nudge.
Now along with the model changes, voice samplings from Grand theft Auto: San Andreas have been included as well. Nothing new as that would prove difficult for the voice actor for CJ and or computers to emulate new dialogue, but it’s a nice touch. I couldn’t have thought of a weirder hack if I tried. Oh wait. I just did. What about all of the other The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild mods being coded together? Let’s see Big Smoke, CJ, Sora, and Sonic race away from Shrek!
24 Bad To The Bone
XmodxGodX created this hack and it can be found on Romhacking.net. It’s a sprite mod for The Legend of Zelda:Ocarina of Time that replaces the kid Link with a Stalchild and the grown up Link with Ganondorf. Despite there being a lot of hacks up on Romhacking and elsewhere, I didn’t really find a lot that transform the typical hero into a villain be it Ganon, Ganondorf, or otherwise. That’s why I had to jump on the chance to include a villain in some form. Unfortunately, that’s all this mod does, which is kind of disappointing.
Time to conquer Hyrule, Ganondorf style.
Why haven’t there been more attempts to represent the villains in hacks? I’m not saying they don’t exist, as proof of this example, but there are very little. Fans certainly love drawing Ganondorf and other nefarious creatures from this series. Does that not apply to the talented modders out there? Is there no love for the evil destroyer of worlds with them? Hard to say, but if you have a soft spot for Ganondorf and need some sort of excuse to play through The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the millionth time then this is it.

23 Trapped In A Cube
PuzzleDude created this hack and it can be found on Romhacking.net. It’s called Zelda3 Cube and it’s a hack of The Legend of Zelda:A Link to the Past for the Super Nintendo. To those familiar with the film, Cube, this may come as a surprise. For those that aren’t, allow me to explain. Cube is a thriller wherein people have to escape an ever-evolving dungeon. Every room presents a new set of dangers and a puzzle to solve in order to get out alive. Zelda3 Cube is a play off of that, but less gruesome. It’s designed as one big dungeon and negates your typical land exploration for something smaller and more thought-provoking.
Another great comparison would be to liken it to Portal as a video game reference. All that said it’s very linear, obviously, but if you like puzzles then this is a nice aside to your typical Hyrule adventure. It’s also the most recent of all hacks, debuting back in February of this year. It just goes to show that dedicated fans will be making hacks for The Legend of Zelda:A Link to the Past until the end of time. And why shouldn’t they? It’s the best game in the series.
22 A Fiery Present
PuzzleDude created this hack and it can be found on Romhacking.net. It’s called Zelda’s Birthday and is a hack of The Legend of Zelda:Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64. This isn’t my pick for the best. In fact, it’s the farthest in my mind from the greatest game in the series, but some find it to be “the one” to which I say: good for them. If you like awkward controls then more power to you. Smarmy comments aside, let’s dive into the meat of this mod.
If you couldn’t tell from hinted the title, the story revolves around Princess Zelda’s birthday. All of her gifts have been stolen and it’s up to you, as kid Link, to retrieve the missing parcels. Doesn’t that sound exciting? Well, it actually is because you have to go to the underworld to retrieve them. As an adult, I would do anything for a girl, but going into the abyss may make me hesitate. If I was a kid I would say heck no I won’t go, but I guess I’m not as noble as out dear Link. That is to say, I’m not as smitten by a princess. Burn! I got you good little Link.

21 The Master Corn
Dr. Floppy created this hack and it can be found on Romhacking.net. It’s called The Legend of Iowa and is a hack of the original The Legend of Zelda game for the NES. As the name suggests it’s a complete remake, replacing nearly every tile and sprite in the game to make it seem more like a Hyrule adventure starring a farmer from Iowa as the name obviously suggests. Duh. Not only that, but also the sound effects and music have been altered too. They aren’t original though. If you have a good ear you might recognize them as 8-Bit covers of some more famous tracks, which I’ll leave a mystery.
Does that sound boring to you? Yeah while it isn’t the most exciting of all these hacks, it is an extensive undertaking. A lot of the examples on here change a few things, but as I said, nearly everything in the game has been changed to reference Iowa, or the farming community in some way. Why? I have absolutely no idea, but more power to Dr. Floppy. Oh and one final note. Instead of dungeons, you traverse meth labs. Hmm, sounds more like a Breaking Bad riff on The Legend of Zelda. Now that would be awesome.
20 Er, Or?
Nesplayer created this hack and it can be found on Romhacking.net. It’s called Zelda II: The Adventure of Error and is a hack of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link for the NES. It replaces Link with a random, albeit famous, NPC from the original source, Error. Now this game is kind of like the black sheep of the family so many may not know who Error is so allow me to explain. There’s an NPC in the village of Ruto that says, “I am Error.” That’s it. Was that his name, or was that simply a bad translation?
I am Error, destroyer of worlds.
It’s actually a little of both. The quote isn’t the exact phrasing as it was found in the Japanese version, but no matter how you slice it this dude’s name is Error. That’s odd, but okay. History aside, the mod is the exact same adventure at its core albeit with slight tweaks. The text is more vulgar and treats Error like a buffoon. Perhaps the craziest thing about this hack is that enemy sprites are replaced with random ones from other NES games. You can fight Kirby, Goombas, and other Nintendo classics. It’s dumb, but I love it.

19 Keyblade Of Time
YamGaming1 created this hack and it can be found on GameBanana. It’s a simple mod that replaces Link with a model for Sora from Kingdom Hearts into the Wii U version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Why not the Switch edition? Well, the modding community is still behind on cracking that console so the Wii U will have to do. As if you could really tell by looking at it. I bought and played both versions and they look identical to me. Identically super awesome that is. Woo!
Anyway none of the dialogue, or anything else about the game is different. If you love Kingdom Hearts then this is a nice alternative to Link. You can alter Sora’s clothes and even wield Keyblades. Sorry, but they still break although there are mods to help out with that frustration too. I’ve also seen a lot of videos that combine this mod with one that changes the giants to Shrek, which is equally amazing in its own way. Shrek is a living, breathing meme so sure why not include him 2017’s best game? It also may be a secret joke for a co-owned Disney character to fight a DreamWorks hero.
18 Four Makes One
Francais, Omega, PuzzleDude, and SePH all created this hack and it can be found on Romhacking.net. It’s called Zelda3: Goddess of Wisdom and it’s a hack of The Legend of Zelda:A Link to the Past for the Super Nintendo. Yes, PuzzleDude is back for another mod, but this time he’s in collaboration with three other guys that each have their own extensive profiles on the website. Now, this was actually one of the first hacks I ever tried out way before I started writing for TheGamer. His first example, Zelda3 Cube, is the newest on this list and in turn, I think this one may be the oldest, which released eight years ago in 2010.
You begin sort of the same way. Zelda is calling out for you, your uncle leaves, and it’s raining, but this time you tackle a dungeon in Kakariko Village. As you can imagine the rest of the world has been rearranged too. While there is nothing new really in terms of sprite work, or quests, it is an alternate version with just enough changed to keep things interesting. That is if you can’t get enough of The Legend of Zelda:A Link to the Past.

17 Respect My Authority
Kevin’s Game Site created this hack and it can be found on Zophar’s Domain. It’s called South Park Zelda and is a hack of the original The Legend of Zelda game for the NES. I was sold the minute I saw the name, but after playing it for a while I can safely say this mod is disappointing. It holds a lot back from what I imagine a South Park influenced The Legend of Zelda game could be. Now that is a collaboration project I would pay hundreds of dollars to see.
Howdy ho and welcome to Hyrule!
Link has been replaced with Cartman although he looks more like Kyle, Mr. Hanky has taken the form of the fairies, and Kyle’s mom is Ganon. There’s nothing really else of note to discuss in terms of sprites, which just seems like a waste to me. Well, the world has changed, reflecting that of a Denver winter wasteland, but the tiles on the screen look like they were drawn in MS Paint. It’s way too basic without any detail. Also, again, why does Cartman have the color scheme of Kyle? It doesn’t make any sense. This hack makes me a sad panda.
16 A Gender Bender
ArchAngelofJustice created this hack and it can be found on Romhacking.net. It’s called The Adventure of Lady Link and is a hack of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link for the NES. This one is similar to Zelda II: The Legend of Error in that it’s the same quest as the original, but with a slight alteration. In fact, only one thing has changed.
Link is now a long, dark-haired girl in a red tunic. That’s it. The sprite of Zelda hasn’t even been altered into a boy. It’s not much of a mod, but hey, if you’re a lady yourself and want more female protagonists, especially in The Legend of Zelda series, then here you go. At the very least I will say the sprite work is nice. Kind of weird how no one addresses you as a girl though, but that’s of little consequence anyway. Maybe one day we can actually play as a woman in some official capacity. I know you’ll do the right thing eventually Nintendo. Before you correct me and say there have been playable girls in the franchise let me counter with a no. I don’t think Hyrule Warriors counts even though I liked it.

15 A National Treasure
Criken2 created this hack and it can be found on Itch.io. It’s called The Cage’s Mask and is a hack of The Legend of Zelda:Majora’s Mask for the Nintendo 64. If you’re a fan of the ever-amazing Nicolas Cage then this mod will be right up your alley. As he demonstrates in the trailer he put up on his YouTube page, Criken2 replaced all of the faces with that of Mr. Cage. He even put it on objects like weapons and shields. It’s a Nicolas Cage overload into an already creepy entry in The Legend of Zelda series.
Seriously. This is one dark tale and might be the second black sheep right next to Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. Anyway, The Cage’s Mask is the most meme inspired entry on this list and maybe even the funniest if you can get past the horror. I’m a huge, non-ironic fan of Nicolas Cage and even this was a bit much for me. One moment I could be laughing and the next crying in a corner. That unpredictability makes this an easy recommendation albeit with a fair warning. Good luck sleeping after playing this. The challenge has been officially issued.
14 Bunny Hop
Pollux created this hack and it can be found on Romhacking.net. It’s called Cornelius in LttP and it’s a hack of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for the Super Nintendo. Of all the random characters to replace Link with this may seem like the strangest, but in actuality I think it fits in rather well with the lore of this game. Hear me out. Cornelius is from a PS2 action RPG called Odin Sphere and he’s one of five playable heroes. He was once a human prince, but was cursed and then transformed into a rabbit.
You know who else gets transformed into a rabbit? Yep, Link does as well.
In the Dark World Link cannot hold his true form without the Moon Pearl. He is literally useless without the power of the item in rabbit form. Cornelius, on the other hand, is quite the capable bunny. Everything else about the game is completely the same even the dialogue. That’s okay though. I applaud the nod to one of gaming’s greatest hidden gems. As a small plug, you should definitely check out the somewhat recent remake of the game, Odin Sphere Leifthrasir.

13 The Shadow Knows
The3Dude created this hack and it can be found on Romhacking.net. It’s called The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Shadow and is a hack of the original The Legend of Zelda game for the NES. It, like many others on this list, completely retools everything about the source. Link’s sprite and every other NPC and monster are better featured. They look more like characters than a bunch of pixels. That’s not to put Nintendo on blast for their work, or anything. I just want to commend The3Dude on his work. So yes, it looks, plays, and sounds great, but this is an example of a hack I’m not that into.
Why? It’s extremely hard and that’s saying something for a game that began as a ball buster. You begin in an open area, as you do, but the location of the sword is a mystery. You have to go screen-to-screen, dodging monsters, and passing out regularly until you find the dang thing. Why do that to your player? Was the original not tough enough for you? I mean in some way I get it. Not everyone is a baby like me and actually wants a challenge. I do too, but not like this.
12 Darkness Rises
The_icepenguin created this hack and it can be found on Romhacking.net. It’s called The Legend of Zelda: Shadow of Night and is a hack of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link for the NES. From that name alone you should get the idea that modders love to reference shadows, or darkness in their titles even though this hack and the previous one have nothing in common with each other. Or do they? No, they really don’t so let’s get to it.
Something else you can assume from that name is that the game takes place at night and yes; of course, it does, which is already a drastic change from the source material. It doesn’t really alter the experience that much as it is just a color alteration, but that’s not the only thing. The whole game has been updated like a remix. Link wears red; there are new towns, new dungeons, and all the other accompaniments of a hack like this. If you’re one of those crazy Zelda II: The Adventure of Link fans then I’m sure you’ll enjoy more of what you already loved. As someone unfamiliar with most of said experience, it was still a cool learning experience.

11 Don’t Touch Me!
Greiga Master created this hack and it can be found on Romhacking.net. It’s a super basic mod for The Legend of Zelda:Phantom Hourglass on the Nintendo DS that replaces touch controls with button and D-Pad controls. There’s also one for its sequel, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. Literally nothing else about the game is different, but that’s fine. It makes these, and to a lesser degree its sequel, so much easier to play.
Phantom Tracks and Spirit Hourglass are better subtitles.
If I said it once I’ll say it again. The Wii and the DS ruined a majority of Nintendo games. Rough statement I know, but motion controls and touch controls often ruined my experiences. If they were optional then I would be more okay with their implementation, but when you force someone into it the whole adventure feels off. Let’s take this game for example. Controlling Link with the stylus on the DS was a chore. I got used to it, but I always dreamed of using more normal controls. Like I said it’s nothing new so replaying the game isn’t going to blow your mind, but if you’ve never played this game this is how I recommend playing The Legend of Zelda:Phantom Hourglass.
10 Well Excuse Me Link
Kenna W created this hack and it can be found on Romhacking.net. It’s called Zelda starring Zelda 2 and it’s a hack of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for the Super Nintendo. Yeah, I don’t fully get the name either. Simply put this mod swaps the roles of Zelda and Link. Zelda is now the hero, but her sprite has been slightly altered. Maybe her design is more reminiscent of her look from Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, but based off of screenshots and artwork analysis, I couldn’t come to that conclusion. No matter why she was altered she’s the hero.
Link, on the other hand, is the exact same sprite except for the fact that he has no sword and shield. Like The Adventure of Lady Link, I applaud Kenna W for making hack for another game in this series wherein a lady is the hero. Not just a female version of Link either. You’re the princess. Is that the way I want it to play out in an official The Legend of Zelda game where Zelda is the star saving Link? Not really — but it's still cool. I also love to see them work in tandem like how she aided Link as Sheik in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
9 Invaders From Another Land
Trifindo and Pacnsacdave created this hack and it can be found on Romhacking.net. It’s called Legend of Zelda: Awakening of Onyx and is a hack of the original The Legend of Zelda game for the NES. Like others before it, this is a complete rebranding of the source material. According to the data entry for this mod Link is out to take out General Onox who has invaded Hyrule. No, that is not a misspelling. The game is called Legend of Zelda: Awakening of Onyx, but you are fighting General Onox. That’s kind of a confusing name, but whatever.
Legend Of Zelda Oot Rom Hacks
Bewilderment aside, the most jarring thing about the mod is that it looks like a Game Boy game. The tiles and the sprites all look like they came from The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. Even the sound quality is a bit more muted, accompanying that aesthetic. It emulates that style while still being presented as a NES game, which is pretty unique, but also not the only mod to do this remixed presentation. And like The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Shadow it’s also pretty hard, but at least you start off with a boomerang to stun enemies before you get the blade. That helps a little.
8 Easy As Pie
Tog created this hack and it can be found on Romhacking.net. It’s a super basic mod for Zelda II: The Adventure of Link for the NES, which just makes the game a lot easier. That is literally it, but I’m okay with that. In fact, I’m thrilled! As I said earlier this game is considered kind of a black sheep for the entire franchise. It throws out nearly everything that came before it with The Legend of Zelda, as did many sequels for the NES including Final Fantasy II and Super Mario Bros. 2.
Sure you’re still exploring the world of Hyrule on a quest to resurrect a sleeping Princess Zelda, but so many mechanics were changed.
It isn’t easy being Link. It’s more of an actual RPG. The towns and dungeons are represented in a 2D style. You fight monsters; gain experience of sorts and then level up. There are multiple towns too. It’s also kind of a platformer though Link isn’t as flexible as Mario. It’s interestin, to say the least, but the high challenge always steered me away. After I implemented this patch I got pretty far without much difficulty to the point where I think I’m finally going to beat it. Fingers crossed that is.

7 Gotta Go Fast
WillanZilv created this hack and it can be found on GameBanana. It’s a simple mod that replaces Link’s motorcycle from the Wii U version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild DLC, The Champions’ Ballad, with Sonic the Hedgehog. Now, this is a crossover I never thought would happen and one that officially, I can almost guarantee, never will. Leave it to the fans to create some whacky mods to take something cool and turn it into a meme on wheels. As goofy as Link looks atop Sonic it’s pretty awesome while being equally hilarious.
This mod also spits out golden rings for Sonic to collect as well as implement classic sound effects from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. There’s little else to really write about the hack other than the user, WillanZilv, will come up again with another great albeit random switch for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. For the huge fans of Sonic out there that want to ship him with Link, well this hack isn’t it, but hey, at least it gets the two heroes on the same screen. Also, Link is “riding” Sonic, which is close enough to some fan fiction I’ve seen.
6 Swear To Me!
Meliz created this hack and it can be found on Romhacking.net. It’s called Zelda: Swear to the P*ast and it’s a hack of The Legend of Zelda:A Link to the Past for the Super Nintendo. With a name like that, I bet you can guess what’s different about the game. Every piece of text from the original source has been altered making it a very vulgar Hyrule. It’s stuff that I can’t really easily talk about without offending fragile ears, but I will try to dance around the story.
First of all, Zelda is calling for help because the evil wizard Agahnim was giving her (and the other girls) a hard time. It even happens to your uncle. You must avenge his bottom and rescue Zelda for the sake of Hyrule. Get it? Yeah, that’s just the beginning. It gets a lot dirtier while still following the exact same plotline in terms of quest lines. The only other two things changed is the opening title screen and Link’s hair is now blonde, instead of crazy pink. If you like crude humor and bottom stuff then give this one a shot.

5 Another Link To The Rescue
Infidelity created this hack and it can be found on Romhacking.net. It’s called Zelda: The Legend of Link and is a hack of the original The Legend of Zelda game for the NES. It’s another fairly recent hack, 2017, that also replaces everything in the game with more Game Boy like sprites. They look a lot different compared to Legend of Zelda: Awakening of Onyx. They’re more inspired by the Game Boy then being a one to one cut except for the fact that the world is pretty much the land from The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awaking. That is to say, it’s as if that game and the original were spliced together to make this weird hybrid of a mod.
It’s dangerous to go alone so take all my stuff.
I will say I like it a lot better than The Legend of Zelda: Awakening of Onyx from the simple fact that you begin the game with money, your sword, and a boomerang. Gosh, thanks old man. That helps a lot more than just the normal sword handoff. It was pretty cool to explore this collage of the greater elements from both games too. It’s still challenging and confusing, but not brutal and impossible to figure out.
4 New Adventures Await
HollowShadow created this hack and it can be found on Romhacking.net. It’s called Zelda II: New Adventure of Link and is a hack of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link for the NES. Are you ready for more of this game? No? Well too bad. As the subtitle would suggest this mod takes place in an altered version of Hyrule once again retooling everything about the original adventure. There is a new overworld, new 2D perspectives, new enemy encounters, new dungeons, and so on. The best part about this hack is that it comes in three flavors. No, not actual flavors. I’m pretty sure data has no taste. Well, at least for now. One day we will eat it.
Anyway there is an easy style called “NOOB Mode” that is pretty self-explanatory. There’s also a version where enemies will be able to destroy you in one hit. That’s for the uber hardcode players. Then there is “Recommended Mode” which finds a balance between a typical easy and hard difficulty pattern. It’s great because it offers unique play styles for all kinds of gamers. I, of course, opted for the “NOOB Mode” but dabbled in the other two as well for research purposes.

3 A Flipped Perspective
Euclid and SePH created this hack and it can be found on Romhacking.net. It’s called Zelda3: Parallel Worlds and it’s a hack of The Legend of Zelda:A Link to the Past for the Super Nintendo. Sadly this is the last hack for the legendary SNES game, but that’s okay. We’re ending it with a bang from another fairly wide known mod. As if I need to say it, the game is a remake, using what existed in the code to make a new adventure. As always, you still start with your uncle and are called to help Zelda in the rain. Hyrule is still the same in terms of the map, but the locations are different as well as the objectives.
You must find the Master Pot.
Legend Of Zelda Oot Rom Hacks
For example, you’re still heading to what would be the castle, but it instead is a guardhouse. It’s a dungeon that looks like a place from Kakariko Village, kind of similar to how Zelda3: Goddess of Wisdom was represented. Unlike all of the other SNES hacks, this shares a lot in common with the NES ones in that it takes a long time to get your sword. You find bombs pretty early on, but because the guards rush you they are not very useful. Not as powerful as say a random pot.
2 Greetings Outlander
GameMakr24 created this hack and it can be found on Romhacking.net. It’s called Legend of Zelda: GST and is a hack of the original The Legend of Zelda game for the NES. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. This is a mod that remixes the world of Hyrule into a brand new adventure, dropping Link into the middle of nowhere without his sword, or anywhere near it. That sounds like so much f…NOT! I feel like I’m taking crazy pills.
Can we not with these? What’s so interesting about playing this classic game without any way to defend yourself? In a 3D environment, I could see it being exciting sort of like a stealth mission, but it’s way harder to dodge enemy attacks from this top down perspective. It’s not fun. It just isn’t. Phew, anyway in terms of style it looks close to the presentation found in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Shadow and is equally as difficult if not more so. If you want to make what was already a pretty challenging game more nauseating and you couldn’t get your fix out of the other hard hacks then by all means slit your wrists again with this one.

1 Game Boy World
Mucilage created this hack and it can be found on Romhacking.net. It’s called Legend of Zelda: GST and is a hack of the original The Legend of Zelda game. With a name like GST, you would think it was some sort of time based mod right? Well, it’s actually just a simple graphical overhaul that replaces the standard maps, sprites, and models with something more similar to Game Boy standards except with a bit more power thanks to the NES. The thing that differs it from similar mods on this list is that it tries the hardest to emulate said Game Boy. The colors, while bright, are more muted and dark giving it that old school screen style.
Thankfully, at the very least, you can see what is going on. As for the name I have no idea why it was called that. Nothing on Mucilage’s Romhacking page says anything about what this mod includes other than the fact that it changes the tiles and sprites as I said. And other than that it’s the exact same game. Nothing had been changed about the difficulty balance, or anything. It’s simple, but I’m sure even a basic hack like this takes time and talent.

Features Of Ocarina Of Time
Zelda Oot Rom Hacks
- The Sheikah Stone was added to give hints to new players on how to complete certain tasks and quests.
- The cinematic of Link’s roll attack was changed and it is more limited where Link can roll after falling.
- In place of the Stone of Agony, which activates the rumble feature on a GameCube controller (if the controller is compatible with that feature), Link receives the Shard of Agony; both of these items are obtained in the same area and with the same amount of Gold Skulltulas.
- Additional buttons were added that items can be equipped to; in lieu of X, Y, and Z, it now has X, Y, I, and II.
- Both Iron Boots and Hover Boots are now items that can be equipped with X, Y, I, or II. This fixes an annoyance regarding having to pause the game repeatedly in some parts of the game in order to equip and equip the Iron Boots.
- The Start Screen was completely remodeled.
- A “Boss Gauntlet” was added to the game after the Spirit Temple is completed; prior to that this was a simpler “Boss Challenge” which was accessible after completing the first three dungeons (Inside the Deku Tree, Dodongo’s Cavern, and Lord Jabu-Jabu’s Belly). This feature allows Link to fight any boss that has been fought up to that point and will update accordingly. This is a very similar concept to content used in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword or in Ganon’s Tower in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.
- Paintings have been placed above the doorways in the central room of the Water Temple indicating that they lead to a specific Triforce and which one specifically.
- An easily missable key in the Water Temple is now explicitly pointed out. Another one is pointed out in the establishing shot of the exterior of the Forest Temple.
- Much More……………../
